*waves*

Female, 28, Aussie, voluntary writer. Wink

I started reading Tolkien in 1999 when I learned there'd be films based upon The Lord of the Rings, and I wanted to read the books before the films came out. Cool Started with The Hobbit, then LotR, then Unfinished Tales, and The Silmarillion. I've got three History of Middle-earth books (BoLT1&2, XII), most recently read Roverandom, and I'm patiently waiting for my paperback copy of The Children of Hurin.

My pseudonym here is my own Middle-earth character (created for a LotR fanfic).

*waves* Hi, Braeden!

Great to have you. Smile Hopefully we should be getting some RP's and the like started soon, and it'll be great to have you here for that!

How is that? Isn't he your second cousin?

To me you are doubly related, Dior Eluchil. On my father's side you're my second cousin three times removed (if I'm right about the above). On my mother's side, you're actually the same (through different people).

I'm even more closely related to your wife, though - she's my grandaunt, sister of my grandfather.

Oh, enough of genealogy ... I'm off to the Lit fora!

I'm crap with the relational stuff. Embarassed

All I know is I'm related to him through Earwen. My mother is Dior's mother's first cousin. So however that works. Wink

Aye, if I can wrangle my muse into doing something for me. Wink

Though, there is a 4th Age RP I've trialed elsewhere - it's been going fairly well there; just damn slow. Sad It might work better here. Smile

And then there's that other idea I've had for years... that may never work. But this site might be a good place to try it out. Laughing

Welcome, Braeden and Eluchil! (Love your avatar, by the way!)

Varna - you know far too much when it comes to genealogy! I think I'm just going to call everyone cousin unless I know different. Wink

Try out any RP ideas you like! Smile We'd be glad to have them. I can't get enough RP, even though I RP heavily on two other sites. Wink

When your mothers are first cousins, then their children - one level down on each side - are second cousins.

It's when you get people from different levels that you get the 'removed' business. My librarian friend in Bexleyheath (whom I visited in August, and whose husband is recovering from his stroke, btw) found a table for me, showing graphically who belongs with who - that finally explained it to me.

Find the level down both sides of the family where one branch stops, and work out the relationship there - then count the generations down the other branch.

Arwen and Aragorn are first cousins thirty-something-times removed. Count the generations down from the son of Elros, who is Arwen's first cousin.

And it's much easier if you can find that kind of table.

Did I just say 'enough of genealogy'? Embarassed

Glad to hear your friend's husband is recovering, Varna. Smile And don't stop, it's interesting!

There's a table here if anyone's interested.

OK, well, a bastardized imaginary Sinda, but another one all the same. Hope it's good enough for you Elu. Razz

So... I'm a 25 year old journalism student. I currently work for slave wages as a photographer for two different newspapers. It is hellish and I am looking forward to getting a different job doing fieldwork for an entomology and silviculture lab. Soon! And then it will be off to Japan for a year to be overpaid as an assistant English teacher. Yatta! Very Happy

Other than that, I love the Professor, and particularly the Silmarillion. I need to read it again when I get done with this whole horrible school thing.

Hey everyone!

A lot of you don't know me so I will say that I'm a 20 year old Australian Science/Arts student who is obsessed with Britian. I know a few things about post-colonial Asian history especially Buddhism (though I'm not Buddhist or anything at all) and chemistry. I also write short stories when I have the time.

As for Prof. Tolkien, it's been a few years since I've read LotR or the Hobbit (or attempted to brave the archaic style of the Silm ... one day). I'll leave the literary discussion to my betters.

Adulithien, are you doing JET?! Eek, I'm so jealous!! Waa, yokatta! I did Japanese for 5 years in high school, but honestly it was just watching anime and saying itedakimasu at absolutely everything. Still, I could speak it all right ... now it's appalling! I'm planning on for applying for JET when I graduate at the end of next year.
